Moody farewell to a sailor!
This time it is a Swiss family booking an afternoon of sailing. They are with grandma, three children and their partner and five grandchildren. Grandpa passed away recently and was a passionate sailor. They want to sail and lower his ashes into the North Sea
The sailing bug has been passed on, as we get expert help in the “crew cockpit” from the children who are clearly experienced.
The grandchildren stay with grandma under the bimini in the VIP cockpit.
After an hour of sailing, we furl the genoa and the company sits on the foredeck. We let them reminisce discreetly as a close-knit family and each takes turns throwing a small paper bag with ashes into the North Sea.
Fifteen minutes later, they ask us to hoist the full sails. They enjoy watching Elise cleave through the waves at 6-7 knots with little wind (8-10 knots WNW). Each of the children takes turns at the wheel.
By 6pm, we are at our berth. Visibly satisfied, both with the serendipitous moment and the sailing experience, they say goodbye.
We send them a screenshot showing the location and hour of the ashore drop.
